Taking photos

Why does the stamp say "No GPS fix" or "Old fix"?

The stamp always shows the position as it really is when you press the shutter. Indoors, or right after opening the camera, the phone may not have a fresh GPS position yet. Step outside or near a window and wait until the GPS chip at the top shows an accuracy such as ±5 m.

For important photos, turn on Settings → Wait for a fresh GPS fix: GeoSeal then waits up to 10 seconds for a position under 30 seconds old and within ±20 m.

The street address is missing

Street addresses come from the phone's map service and need a connection. Offline, GeoSeal still adds the tehsil, district and province in Pakistan, the upazila, district and division in Bangladesh, and the district and state in India, from maps stored in the app.

How do I change the stamp?

Swipe left or right across the viewfinder to switch between the 9 styles, or tap the palette button. Fields, colours and formats lets you choose what the stamp shows, its position, colours, text size, address parts, coordinate format and date format.

Can I set up the stamp for each project?

Yes. In Projects, each project can have its own style, client, reference number and custom fields such as Site, Unit or Permit. Photos are numbered per project.

What is evidence mode?

A project setting for insurance and legal work. It uses only the Forensic Block or Legal Banner style, always prints the record ID and fingerprint, waits for a fresh GPS fix, and blocks imported photos.

My landscape photos look sideways

GeoSeal saves photos the way you hold the phone, even when screen rotation is locked, so a landscape shot is saved as landscape. If a photo still comes out sideways, email us your phone model and we will look into it.

Checking a photo

How can someone check that a photo was not edited?

Send them the evidence bundle: in the gallery or on a photo, tap Export → Evidence bundle (ZIP). They can drop it on geoseal.app/verify, which checks the photo's fingerprint, the device signature and the custody log in their browser.

The QR code on the stamp opens the same page and remembers which photo it belongs to. With just the original photo file, the page can confirm it matches the QR code.

What do the checks on a photo mean?

Verification just now re-checks the files: the device signature, that the original and stamped copy are unchanged, and that the photo's entry in the custody log is linked to the one before it.

Recorded at capture shows what the phone noted when the photo was taken: whether it was taken in the GeoSeal camera or imported, how old and accurate the GPS fix was, whether the clock matched network time, and how the signing key is stored. A warning here does not mean the photo was edited; it tells the viewer exactly how much to trust the time and place.

Why is an imported photo marked "Imported"?

GeoSeal can stamp a photo taken with another app, but it cannot vouch for when or where that photo was really taken. The stamp, the record and every report say "Imported", and the location is marked as read from the file.

Is a GeoSeal photo accepted in court?

GeoSeal makes photos checkable, which helps show they are authentic. Whether a photo is accepted as evidence depends on the rules where you use it.

Backups and new phones

How do I back up my photos?

GeoSeal's records are not copied to cloud backup, so keep your own: Gallery → Share → Evidence bundle (ZIP) exports the originals, stamped copies, sealed records and custody log. Save the ZIP to Drive, a computer or a USB drive. The gallery reminds you when photos have not been backed up for a while.

I am moving to a new phone

Make an evidence bundle of everything first, so you have a copy that can always be checked. On Android, the phone-to-phone transfer during setup can also bring GeoSeal's photos and records across; older photos still verify, and the new phone creates its own signing key for new photos.

How do I delete photos or all my data?

Delete a photo from its menu; it stays in the trash for 30 days so you can restore it, then it is erased. On iPhone, also delete the stamped copy in the Photos app: GeoSeal can add photos there but not remove them. To remove everything, uninstall GeoSeal. Copies in your gallery and anything you shared are not removed. We do not hold any of your data, so there is nothing to delete on our side. See the privacy policy.

Troubleshooting

"Camera unavailable"

Another app may be using the camera, or it is turned off by a device policy. Close other camera, video-call or scanner apps and tap Try again.

Photos are not appearing in my gallery (Android 8 and 9)

On these Android versions GeoSeal needs the Storage permission to copy photos to Pictures. Open Android settings → Apps → GeoSeal → Permissions and allow Storage. Your photos are safe in GeoSeal either way.

The map on the stamp or in the gallery is empty

Maps are drawn from online map tiles. Without a connection the stamp is saved without a map, and the gallery map shows a notice. Everything else works offline.

I turned on the gallery lock and cannot get in

The lock uses your phone's fingerprint, face or screen lock. Tap Unlock and use your screen PIN or pattern if the fingerprint is not recognised. If your phone has no screen lock set up, the gallery lock has nothing to check against and stays open.

Purchases

Is there a subscription or in-app purchase?

No. GeoSeal is a one-time purchase. Updates are free.

How do I get a refund?

Google Play handles purchases and refunds; see Google Play's refund help. If something is not working, email us first: we may be able to fix it.
