Privacy policy
GeoSeal is a camera app made by ItemBits Studios ("we"), for Android and iPhone. It stamps your photos with the time and place they were taken and seals them so they can be checked later. This policy explains what the app and this website do with your information.
In short: we have no servers that receive your photos or location, there is no account, and there are no ads or analytics in the app.
What stays on your phone
Everything you create in GeoSeal is stored only on your device, in the app's private storage:
- photos (the original and the stamped copy) and their sealed records: time, GPS position, address, camera and device details, notes, tags and project fields;
- the custody log, a list of what happened to each photo (captured, notes edited, reports exported, moved to the trash);
- your settings, projects, company name and logo;
- a signing key created by your phone's secure hardware. It never leaves the device and cannot be exported, not even by us.
A copy of each stamped photo is also saved to your phone's photos. On Android it goes into a "GeoSeal" album. On iPhone it goes to your Photos library, and into a "GeoSeal" album only if you allow full Photos access for that. If you turn it on, the original is saved there too.
We never see any of this. GeoSeal's records are excluded from cloud backup (Google Drive backup on Android, iCloud Backup on iPhone). Use Export → Evidence bundle to keep your own backup. Moving to a new Android phone with Android's own transfer tool can copy GeoSeal's records to the new phone; that copy goes straight from phone to phone.
What leaves your phone, and why
GeoSeal works offline, but some features use the internet when it is available:
| Feature | What is sent | To whom | Why |
|---|---|---|---|
| Address lookup | Your current GPS position while the camera is open (so the live stamp shows the address), and the position stamped on a photo you import | On Android, Google, through the phone's built-in geocoder. On iPhone, Apple, through iOS's built-in geocoder. | To turn coordinates into a street address. Tehsils, districts and provinces in Pakistan, Bangladesh and India are found on the phone, without sending anything. |
| Mini-map on the stamp, in the stamp editor and on the gallery map | Which map tiles are needed (this reveals the approximate area being viewed), plus your IP address | OpenFreeMap (tiles.openfreemap.org), using OpenStreetMap data | To draw the map |
| Time check | A standard time request with no personal data | time.google.com, time.cloudflare.com or pool.ntp.org | To record whether the phone's clock was right |
| Rating prompt | Handled by the store app | Google Play or the App Store | To let you rate GeoSeal once, after you have taken a few photos |
These providers handle requests under their own privacy policies. We do not receive, store or sell this information, and the app contains no advertising, analytics or crash-reporting SDKs.
When you share
Photos, PDF reports, CSV and KML files and evidence bundles leave your phone only when you share them yourself, with the app you choose (email, WhatsApp, Drive and so on). They contain the information shown on the stamp and in the sealed records, which can include your exact location, device model and any names or notes you added. There is a setting that removes GPS tags from shared photos; the visible stamp itself is not changed.
An evidence bundle also contains your full custody log, so that the log can be checked from start to end. The log lists the ID, time and type of every entry (for example "photo taken" or "notes edited"), but not the notes, project names or photos themselves, which are included only for the photos you chose to export.
Permissions
- Camera: to take photos. GeoSeal seals photos the moment they are taken.
- Location (while using the app): to stamp where the photo was taken, only while the camera or the import screen is open. It is never used in the background. You can allow approximate location only, or deny it; photos are then stamped with what is available, and a warning is recorded.
- Photos: on Android, only when you import an existing photo, to read the position it was taken at. On iPhone, add-only access to save stamped copies to your Photos library. Full access is asked for only if you choose to file copies in a "GeoSeal" album, because iOS requires it to create an album; even then GeoSeal never reads, changes or uploads your other photos. Importing on iPhone uses the system photo picker, which needs no permission; whether the photo you pick includes its location is your choice in the picker.
- Fingerprint, face or screen lock: only if you turn on the gallery lock. GeoSeal never receives your biometric data; the phone only tells it whether you unlocked.
- Internet: for the features in the table above.
This website
geoseal.app has no cookies, analytics or trackers. The verifier checks photos and bundles inside your browser; the page is not allowed to send data anywhere, so files you drop on it are never uploaded. Our web host may keep standard server logs (such as IP addresses and pages requested) for security and operations.
Children
GeoSeal is a professional tool and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children.
Deleting your data
Delete a photo in the app (it stays in the trash for 30 days, then is erased), or uninstall the app to remove everything it stored. Copies in your gallery, and anything you have shared, are not removed by uninstalling. On iPhone, GeoSeal can add photos to your Photos library but not delete them, so remove the stamped copy in the Photos app as well. Because we hold no data about you, there is nothing for us to delete on our side. The custody log keeps a record that a deletion happened; that record stays on your phone.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new effective date. Significant changes will also be noted in the app's release notes.
